Finch Selected For Bipartisan Education Panel

Assemblyman will work with colleagues to improve New York’s education system
March 16, 2011

Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I – Springport) was selected to serve on today’s bipartisan budget panel for education. Education has been one of the most important issues as the deadline approaches for the 2011-2012 state budget and has become a hot button issue with disproportionate cuts and sagging performance rates showcasing the need for a revamped system.

“Once again, downstate interests are being put ahead of the needs of the people of upstate,” said Finch. “The Assembly Majority’s budget resolution, if enacted, would disproportionately cut upstate schools more than those in New York City. While we’ve taken a step in the right direction by actually holding budget conference committees – something the majority leaders completely disregarded the past two years – we need to make sure that upstate isn’t getting shortchanged.”
