Statement by Assemblymember Harvey Epstein Regarding the Violence on 14th Street
I am frustrated and saddened by yesterday’s attack at 14th Street and Avenue A. This incident illustrates exactly why we have been advocating for more involvement from the Mayor’s office to address the challenges in this portion of the neighborhood. I am troubled by the failure to be proactive in an area that we know needs attention. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We all deserve to feel safe in our neighborhood and we must develop long-term solutions to address the series of issues we have confronted on 14th Street. We must work with Community Board 3, elected officials, and community members to find long-term solutions to our neighborhood and city-wide problems. We are in communication with District Attorney Bragg’s Office and all other stakeholders to collaborate on solutions that center community safety and address the root causes of violence.
