In 2015, Competitive Power Ventures (CPV), a Maryland-based company, began building a large power plant in Wawayanda. After receiving several of its permits, a former vice president at CPV was indicted on federal charges alleging that the company bribed officials to influence regulatory approvals.
Due to the ethical concerns around the project, Assemblyman Skoufis is fighting for answers including:
- Called for CPV to be investigated by the state attorney general;
- Publicly called to prevent the plant from becoming operational until all permits have been re-examined;
- Requested the IDA revoke the 20-year tax break agreement that CPV has with Orange County if the court finds any defendants guilty.
