Assemblyman Gallahan Blasts NYSEG & RG&E Rate Hike Proposal, Urges Public Service Commission to Reject Request
Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C-Manchester) is calling on the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) to reject the latest rate hike request filed today by NYSEG and RG&E, which would impose yet another financial burden on hard-working families, seniors and small businesses.
“I’ve personally heard from countless constituents who are already struggling to keep up with skyrocketing utility bills,” said Gallahan. “They simply cannot afford another increase. If this rate hike is approved, many will be forced to choose between heating their homes or putting food on the table. Some may even be left without heat or power altogether.”
Gallahan criticized Gov. Kathy Hochul’s ongoing energy agenda, pointing to mandates requiring certain newly constructed buildings statewide to be fully electric starting later this year.
“Governor Hochul’s fast-tracked all-electric mandate is a one-size-fits-all disaster,” Gallahan continued. “It drives costs even higher for builders and families and puts further strain on an electric grid that is already under pressure, especially in rural communities.”
Gallahan emphasized the need for a more balanced, practical energy policy that ensures reliability and affordability.
“If New York is serious about clean, cost-effective energy, we must invest in nuclear power. It is one of the cleanest, most reliable sources available and must be a central part of any serious energy strategy.Until there is an affordable plan to address the needs of the all-electric mandate, it must be repealed.”
