Gallahan And Minority Lawmakers Demand Termination of State Emergency Declaration Before End Of Session
Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C-Manchester) is joining his Assembly and Senate Minority colleagues in demanding the termination of the state disaster emergency declared by Executive Order 202 before the end of the 2020-21 Legislative Session, which is scheduled to finish this Thursday.
As of June 2, New York state’s seven-day average positivity rate was the lowest in the nation at 0.64 percent, and hospitalizations dropped to under 1,000 for the first time since October 2020.Numbers are similarly low within Gallahan’s district, with a seven-day infection rate of 1% in the Finger Lakes region.
“In policy-making, science should always guide us, and the data clearly shows we have passed a point of emergency in fighting COVID-19,” said Gallahan. “As the spread of the virus becomes manageable, it is imperative we return to normal operations in state government, because the only person this continued state of emergency is helping right now is our governor.”
