DeStefano on Governor’s Budget Plan

A Statement by Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C- Medford)

“The governor’s upcoming $252 billion budget proposal represents an alarming escalation in government spending, putting New York taxpayers on the hook for the most expensive budget in state history. With a staggering $19 billion increase over last year, this reckless approach to spending is unsustainable.”

“The plan’s focus on new handouts and tax cuts, combined with continued increases in school aid and Medicaid, is driving this budget to dangerous levels. While investing in critical areas is important, unchecked spending risks overburdening hardworking New Yorkers who are already struggling with rising costs.”

“We need responsible fiscal policies that prioritize efficiency, reduce waste, and deliver meaningful results—not a bloated budget that threatens to push New York further into financial instability. I will stand against this excessive proposal and fight for a more balanced approach that truly serves the people of this state.”
