A Resolution by Assemblyman DeStefano: Honoring Libraries as Pillars of Knowledge and Community
Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C-Medford) has introduced a resolution establishing the month of February as Library Lovers Month. The resolution highlights the essential role libraries play in providing free access to books, digital resources and learning opportunities, empowering individuals to achieve both academic and personal goals while fostering a lifelong love of learning.
“Libraries are more than just buildings filled with books—they are gateways to knowledge, inspiration and personal growth,” said DeStefano. “They provide critical resources that help individuals and families succeed, offering opportunities for education, exploration and community connection.”
Beyond their vast collections, libraries inspire curiosity and imagination. Their quiet, welcoming atmospheres encourage reflection and storytelling, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in literature, explore new ideas and engage in meaningful intellectual discussions. Additionally, libraries strengthen communities by offering diverse programs for all ages, from engaging story-time sessions for toddlers to skill-building workshops for adults, fostering collaboration and deeper social connections.
“I encourage my colleagues and constituents to support our local libraries and recognize the critical services they provide,” added DeStefano. “Investing in our libraries is an investment in our communities, education and future generations.”
