Lemondes Rails Immigration Wave, Response by NY
Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C,I-Lafayette) is calling for immediate action in response to the increasing immigration crisis, as New Yorkers grow more frustrated with the wave of undocumented immigrants flooding the state. As over 9,000 migrants have been bussed in from Texas to New York City and Washington, D.C., the impact they have on organizations, funding allocation and the attention of governing officials has begun to impede the needs of law-abiding New Yorkers. Lemondes calls the ordeal a ‘disservice’ to New Yorkers.
“Upstate, we’re already used to being the least favorite child compared to New York City, but the recent developments in larger immigrant waves are throwing our public funds for a loop now more than ever,” Lemondes said. “We’re still in the midst of a record inflation period, where those who most need support are struggling to decide whether to buy food or gas this week.
“I don’t like seeing this system continually favor those who have broken the law over those who are looking to better themselves, their community and our state. It’s a disservice to the hardworking New Yorkers who give their blood, sweat and tears to make their dream work in New York. We need to have a frank conversation about where our priorities lie in regard to where we invest public funds moving forward,” Lemondes concluded.
