Assemblyman John Lemondes (R, C, I-Lafayette) is making his feelings clear in regard to the alarming notion gaining traction in many school districts nationwide that sex education and gender identity studies be taught to students in public schools as early as kindergarten. According to a New York Times and Siena Poll collaboration, of the individuals surveyed, 70% of voters opposed this form of education, with 58% overall ‘strongly opposing’ it, and another 12% ‘somewhat opposing’ it. Lemondes is inclined to agree with the majority in this case.

“The shift towards educating our children on sex and gender earlier and earlier in the public schooling system is something I’m quite concerned about,” Lemondes said. “These moves to push sex and gender education in our schools don’t seem like they come from a place of well-meaning or proactive education but come off as dogmatic and frantic. It doesn’t inspire confidence in myself as a parent that these moves are good-natured. Developing healthy conversations around these topics is one thing, but liberals have pushed to make the classroom the next battleground for sensationalized agendas and politicking,” Lemondes concluded.
