Lemondes Celebrates Economic Investment Coming to Central NY
Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C,I-Lafayette) is celebrating the announcement revealing that technology company Micron will be setting up shop in Central New York very soon. The company announced it would be constructing its new chip manufacturing campus at Ononodaga County’s White Pines Commerce Park in the Town of Clay. Lemondes is thrilled with the news, as bringing new jobs to Central New York has been one of his goals since before running for office.
“I’m ecstatic about the news, I really am. We’re about to see a huge economic boom in Central New York with the arrival of Micron, and I couldn’t be happier for my neighbors and community,” Lemondes said. “Early plans suggest a $100 billion investment to construct the 7.2 million square foot complex over 20 years, bringing with it 45,000 new jobs. It’s the shot of adrenaline New York has needed for so long to stimulate the economy, get people working and bring attention to Central New York.”
It's been reported that 9,000 of the new hires will work directly for Micron, with an average salary expected to be around $100,000. The rest will fill roles surrounding the business, as contractors and suppliers, among other duties.
“This is already being touted as one of, if not the, largest manufacturing project investments New York state has ever experienced, and I’m so proud that it’s happening in Central New York. We’re going to see a marked change in quality of life for the people in this region as a result of this project, and I look forward to witnessing it myself,” Lemondes concluded.
