Lemondes Reacts to Candlewood Suites Patrons Displaced for Migrants
A Statement from Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C-LaFayette)
“Just as we predicted last week, this massive influx of undocumented migrants has now hit Onondaga County and is causing an unsustainable strain on our local infrastructure. Public schools are being turned into ostensible homeless shelters, SUNY campuses are being targeted to house migrants this Summer and patrons of the Candlewood Suites in Salina are being kicked out to make room for migrants.
“As I said last week, County Executive McMahon is doing the right thing by trying to prevent public and private resources from being used for asylum seekers who have not been vetted or background checked and could pose a public safety risk. It’s very troubling to see hotel patrons, some of whom are working in our area, being put out in this manner. New York City officials created this mess by becoming a sanctuary city and the rest of the state should not be left to bear the consequences of their decisions.”
