Lemondes Calls for Passage of ‘Gabby’s Law’ to Create Alert System for Missing Adults
Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C-LaFayette) joined a number of lawmakers on Wednesday at a press conference to call for the passage of “Gabby’s Law” (A.3230) to establish a “Teal Alert” system for missing adults believed to be in danger. The bill is proposed in response to the death of Long Island resident Gabby Petito who was infamously murdered by her boyfriend during a cross-country trip in 2021. Similar to Amber and Silver Alerts, the Teal Alert would ensure information about the missing person is proliferated to the public quickly.
“The story of Gabby Petito is a heartbreaking tragedy, and it is our responsibility to take steps to ensure those missing and believed to be in danger are found before they are harmed,” Lemondes said. “Public safety remains one of our top priorities and we are calling on legislative leaders to bring this bill to the floor for a vote before session adjourns for the year.”
