Lemondes Announces State Aid for Local Library Construction
Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C-LaFayette) is excited to announce the allocation of state aid for local libraries in the 126th Assembly District. This includes funds for the Tully Free Library. These funds will allow for much-needed renovations such as improvements to safety, accessibility and efficiency with fresh air ventilation, a new elevator, stairs, circulation desk and improved storage space. The funds come from $34 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the 2022-2023 state Budget.
New York’s public libraries are in desperate need of renovations. More than half of the public libraries in various communities across the state have been around for over six decades. A significant number of them lack the necessary space to accommodate their growing collections, meet the demand for meeting rooms or offer public access to computers. Lemondes is glad the funds are going toward improving these important centerpieces in our community.
“Our local libraries are essential for our children’s education and our community’s well-being,” said Lemondes. “These funds will allow more people access to these amazing resources and increase community engagement. I’m glad our local libraries are getting the funding they need to help our community thrive.”
