Lemondes Emphasizes Importance of Local Weights and Measures Services
Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C-LaFayette) is highlighting the impact local weights and measures departments play in food pricing. County Weights and Measures Departments are mandated by the state of New York and are responsible for maintaining measurement and pricing accuracy in market transactions. These vital organizations serve to promote equity in all weight-based sales and are particularly important for the integrity of local agriculture.
“The weights and measures program is one of the biggest unsung heroes of local agriculture,” said Lemondes. “Without their critical scale calibration role in the marketplace, both buyers and sellers could experience unfair prices and loss of product. Having these local departments helps keep costs of operation low for small business owners and increases consumer trust. As your assemblyman, I will always work to protect the integrity of our local businesses and provide for our state’s agricultural industry.”
