Legislative Update:
Passage bill A.9568
This past week, a bill that I am the lead sponsor on passed the NYS Assembly with an almost unanimous vote in favor. The bill, A.9568, establishes a new period of statute of limitations for those areas designated as a Superfund Site - much like the Hoosick Falls water issue we have recently struggled with. One way to stop addiction – Shorten the supply of opioids
As we all know, the opioid/heroin drug addiction epidemic continues to invade our lives, families and communities and it is clear that we need a multi-pronged solution focused on four key areas – Education/Enforcement/Treatment/Recovery. As we near the end of this legislative session there are many different efforts underway to address this crisis and I wanted to share one of the many that I am the prime sponsor of in the New York State Assembly.
The bill, A8601, was featured on a news article this weekend by WNYT-13 which you can see here. The intent of the bill is to limit the first time a patient is prescribed a short acting opioid (oxycodone/hydrocodone) for acute pain to no more than a 5 days’ supply (this is no more than 60 tablets).
