Jacobson Praises Funding for Library Projects Throughout His District

Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) praised initiatives at several libraries in his district, following the announcement of State Aid allocations from the 2023-24 budget.

“I was proud to vote for this budget, as well as the 2024-25 budget, both of which included necessary and impactful spending for capital improvements for libraries,” Jacobson said. “It is important to consistently maintain and modernize our libraries so they can function properly for decades to come.”

The initiatives include $342,000 for the Marlboro Free Library to make energy-efficient upgrades to its existing plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems; $103,000 to install solar energy and replace the roof system at the Mid-Hudson Library System building; and nearly $20,000 for the Plattekill Library to install a digital outdoor sign.

"This funding will provide for essential upgrades to the library's plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems,” said Marlboro Free Library Director Christina Jennerich. “The upgraded systems will prioritize sustainable design initiatives that minimize power consumption, and will accommodate the evolving needs of library patrons and services. We are grateful for the funding and thank Assemblymember Jacobson for being a tremendous supporter of libraries."

The 2023-24 State Budget allocated $34 million for library construction, while the 2024-25 budget included $44 million. More than half of the 1,000-plus public library buildings across New York are more than 60 years old. State Aid helps libraries update infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and ensure accessibility for patrons with disabilities, among other things.
