Assemblywoman Griffin: More Absentee Vote Options Will Help Seniors and At-Risk Residents Secure Their Right to Vote During the Pandemic

With the pandemic still a significant public health threat, the Assembly Majority passed legislation today (A8432-A) ensuring that any New Yorker concerned about being exposed to COVID while going to vote can choose an absentee ballot. Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, and it’s critical that we don’t exclude anyone from voting who is concerned about their health – especially our seniors and those most at risk. Once signed by Governor Hochul, this bill will give more voters the right to choose absentee voting in upcoming special elections, local village elections, the 2022 state and federal primaries, and the General Election in the Fall.
