NYS Assemblymember Karen McMahon (D-Amherst) presented a NYS Assembly resolution to the family of Getzville Fire Department Chief Irving A. Isenberg on Thursday. Isenberg died on November 1, 2019, after a battle with myeloma, a bone marrow cancer.

Isenberg served the Getzville Fire Department for 29 years - four years as Chief and two years as President. In addition to his roles with the fire department, he served as a member of four different ambulance companies. His commitment to his community was only surpassed by his devotion to his family. Isenberg worked as the plant manager for his family’s business, Isenberg Meats.

In the days following the September 11th, 2001, terror attacks, Isenberg and other Getzville Fire Company volunteers travelled to New York City. While there, they assisted in the recovery effort, helping to locate victims in the rubble of the World Trade Center, and were even responsible for the rescue of multiple people from Ground Zero.

“Chief Isenberg is nothing short of a hero,” said Assemblymember McMahon. “From his nearly three decades of service to the community of Getzville, to his sense of duty in responding to Ground Zero in the wake of 9/11, he always stepped up when his service was needed. Chief Isenberg was one to always think of others - his community and his country before himself. I was honored to introduce this resolution and properly honor his legacy in the Chamber of the New York State Assembly.”

“The Getzville Fire Company is extremely grateful for the honoring of the late Chief Irving Isenberg and his service at Ground Zero in the aftermath of the September 11th Attacks,” said David Morales, Public Information Officer for the Getzville Fire Department. “Irv did not hesitate for a moment when the opportunity to travel to New York City came up. He always led by example and dedicated his life in service to his community. Irv exemplified what it means to be a first responder.”

In September 2021, Isenberg was added to the state memorial for EMS workers in Albany.

The resolution was adopted on January 20, 2022, and presented to Isenberg’s family at the Getzville Fire Company on Dodge Road.
