Assemblymember McMahon: State Budget Invests in Western New York Schools

Assemblymember Karen McMahon (D-Amherst/Pendleton) announced that she helped pass the 2019-20 state budget, which invests in Western New York schools and includes an increase of $1 billion in state education aid over last year’s budget.

 “Our students are the future of Western New York,” McMahon said. “From their first day of school to their last, kids deserve the best education possible to prepare them for the opportunities that lie ahead. Every child has the right to a great education that allows them to learn, think creatively and discover who they are and what they want to do in the world.”

McMahon helped secure funding increases for school districts in the towns of Amherst and Pendleton and the village of Williamsville, including:

  • nearly $44.6 million for the Williamsville Central School District, an increase of over 2.0 percent over last year;
  • $24 million for the Sweet Home Central School District, an increase of 1.7 percent over last year;
  • $24 million for the Starpoint Central School District, an increase of over 2.4 percent over last year; and
nearly $16.7 million for the Amherst Central School District, an increase of almost 2.3 percent over last year.
