Assemblymember Karen M. McMahon’s Response to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s State of the State Address
“The focus of Governor Cuomo’s State of the State Address was, appropriately, our response to the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 is our most urgent threat, and its defeat must be our priority. I am pleased with the Governor’s plan to expand vaccine implementation, and to provide more public information regarding the process for obtaining vaccinations. Vaccinating New Yorkers is the best strategy for protecting our health and safety. And as we move beyond this crisis, rebuilding our economic infrastructure is critical to preparing for life after the pandemic. The physical and financial health of our region and state must be at the forefront of our efforts.
“I was also pleased that the Governor included a transition to green energy in New York’s list of priorities. Moving away from fossil fuels and toward green, renewable energy will preserve our state’s beautiful green spaces and waterways, many of which are in Western New York. Moreover, a growing renewable energy industry will create thousands of jobs. I applaud the Governor for recognizing the importance of our next steps in fighting climate change, and I look forward to helping green initiatives cross the finish line in the Legislature.”
