Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski Statement on East Ramapo Voting Rights Case

"This district has been an anomaly for years; a public school district that is run by a private school community. This dynamic has been problematic and has led to inequity, distrust and conflict between the public and the board. The problem has been exacerbated because the public school community, comprised of predominantly minority students, have been deprived of proper representation on the school board; a violation of the Voting Rights Act. We have tried to make the situation better through state oversight but are constantly hindered by political and electoral barriers. I am glad the federal judge stepped in to force a more equitable democracy in the district, empowering public school students and voters. I will do anything necessary in the State Legislature to implement and assist the court decision."
