Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I,Ref-Mahopec) is pleased to announce his participation in the 2017 New York State Assembly Summer Reading Challenge. The program is designed to keep students in an academic frame of mind throughout the summer months and prepare them for the upcoming school year. Students who complete the summer reading program will also receive a special Excellence in Reading Certificate.
To kick off this years Summer Reading Challenge, Assemblyman Byrne visited local libraries and schools to meet with students, discuss the initiative and hand out brochures detailing the program. The Summer Reading Challenge begins on July 1 and runs through the end of August.
Evidence overwhelmingly indicates a direct relationship between reading and high academic performance, Byrne said. The Summer Reading Challenge offers students an enjoyable opportunity to stay in an academic mindset throughout the summer months and enjoy some great books, all while learning valuable lessons about setting and reaching goals that will undoubtedly prove beneficial to them in and out of the classroom. I am proud to participate in this program, and encourage anyone interested to join in the fun.
