Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre: Standing Up for Immigrants is the Right Thing To Do
When I became a legislator, I promised to fight for all New Yorkers. No matter who you are or where youre from, you deserve a fair and honest shot to make a good life for yourself. Thats why, today, I helped pass a legislative package to provide better protections and greater access to services and benefits for immigrants in our state.
These bills reaffirm the values that our state and country were founded on. From the DREAM Act (A.3039), which allows the children of immigrants to apply for state tuition assistance programs, to protecting confidential information and fighting back against discriminatory databases (A.3049, A.4882, A.4884), we must stand up for each and every New Yorker.
Diversity is what makes New York truly great thats why my parents came here from Haiti and thats why Ill continue fighting every day to ensure our state is a vibrant and inclusive place to live.
