Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre Secures Funding for Long Island Libraries

Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D-Wheatley Heights) announced that the state Education Department has released nearly $77,000 in construction funding, which was included in the 2018-19 state budget, for local libraries.

“Libraries not only enable learners of all ages to discover exciting worlds and inspiring characters, they also provide adult literacy classes, job search tools and other critical online resources,” said Jean-Pierre. “This funding will allow these community centers to make critical repairs and renovations so they can continue serving our neighborhoods for generations to come.”

The funding includes $59,500 for the Copiague Memorial Public Library to restore exterior structural columns and $17,181 for the Lindenhurst Memorial Library to install a new security system. To build on this construction funding, Jean-Pierre also helped secured $96.6 million in the 2019-20 state budget for libraries statewide.
