Every woman deserves the best possible care for themselves and their newborn, and the Maternal Mortality Review Board created by Assemblywoman Joyner's legislation  will ensure that a diverse board of skilled health professionals focuses on improving the quality of care for New York's women. "The high maternal mortality rate in our state has had a particularly devastating impact on women of color - with black women experiencing a mortality rate that is four times higher than their white counterparts," Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner (D-Bronx, 77th AD) said. "Creation of New York's first ever statewide Maternal Mortality Review Board is an important step forward for the health of all women and their families." (A.3276).
