Bronx Officials Honor Local Heroes of Clay Avenue Fire

Bronx, NY – Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner (D-Bronx, 77th AD), New York City Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson (D-Bronx, 16th CD), and Community Leader Maria Forbes, president of the NYCHA Clay Avenue Tenants Association, held a ceremony for those selfless individuals that assisted in the brave rescue of families in the August 2nd fire at 1248 Clay Avenue.

The ceremony honored employees of NYCHA and Network Infrastructure, a subcontractor of Con Edison. These heroes included: Ivan Maestre, Rosa Keigans, Shawn Graves, Ryan Miller, Karol Jananis, Ricky Gonzalez, Frantz Pierre and Phillip Villanueva.

“These workers instinctively ran in and saved people. We cannot thank them enough for their bravery and their courage,” Assemblywoman Joyner said.

Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner represents the 77th Assembly District, which includes the Claremont, Concourse, Highbridge, Mount Eden and Morris Heights sections of The Bronx. She is currently the Chair of the Subcommittee on Diversity in Law and a founding member of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus’ Women of Color Subcommittee. She also serves on the Assembly’s Aging, Consumer Affairs and Protection, Housing, Insurance, Judiciary and Social Services Committees. A champion for families, Assemblywoman Joyner has made her mark both in Albany and in the community on issues ranging from preserving affordable housing and ensuring quality education for all to protecting victims of domestic violence.
