Make NYS the first state to ban cat declaw!

June 7, 2019

New York State is poised to become the first state in the country to ban cat declawing! Behind a national groundswell of support, my bill (A1303B/S5532B) with State Senator Gianaris to ban the declawing of cats passed both the Assembly and Senate on June 4, 2019! It took five years of advocacy, and we could never have reached this point without the thousands who signed my original petition, made calls, sent letters and showed up to advocacy days.

We are not fully out of the woods yet though, and I need your help again! The bill still needs to be signed into law by Governor Cuomo. Please sign this petition urging the Governor to take immediate action, and share it with your friends, family and anyone you know who loves animals! The declaw ban in New York State will go into effect immediately upon the Governor’s signing of the bill, and each day that goes by, more cat's lose part of their paws.

We are racing to make New York the most humane state in the country for all pets, and passage of this bill into law would be a giant and historic step in that direction. Thank you for all of your support!
