Byrnes: Too Much Gray Area in the Green Light Bill

A statement from Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia)on the Transportation Committee’s vote to move forward Assembly Bill 3675 that allows undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.

“I understand that many farmers in my district support driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants; however, I cannot support this bill due to its specific language. As far as I’m concerned, this isn’t a safety concern, it’s a political scheme aimed towards federal lawmakers. By granting undocumented immigrants the ability to obtain official government identification, it could potentially open doors to illegal voting. When it comes to providing official government documentation for individuals that live here illegally, the specifics are important. The “Green Light Bill” has too much gray area for my support.”
