During his State of the State Address, Gov. Cuomo should have promised to repeal the dangerous bail reform law but failed to do so. This law enabled a man who threatened a school shooting in Saratoga County to be released from custody only hours after his arrest. It rewarded a man charged with manslaughter in the death of a six-week-old baby by letting him walk free pending trial.

These “reforms” do not make our communities safer. By preventing judicial discretion in holding individuals charged with many serious crimes pending trial, we are needlessly endangering law-abiding citizens.

As a former prosecutor and judge, my oath has always been to defend and protect the people I serve. My top priority during this legislative session will be reversing the disastrous effect this law is having on our state.

In addition, I will continue my efforts to reduce taxes, regulations as well as protect our farmers and empower our communities to make decisions at the local level instead of being held hostage by those in ivory towers here in Albany.
