Byrnes Rallies At Albany Press Conference to Repeal Bail Reform Law

Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia) rallied at Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay’s (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) press conference today calling for the repeal of the disastrous bail reform law. Standing next to her Minority colleagues, law enforcement officials and victims of the new law- Byrnes continued to lead the charge for the bail reform law to be immediately repealed.

“Less than three weeks after this law has taken effect, we already have seen the tragic ramifications it has had on so many families in our state,” Byrnes said after the event. “Today we were joined by Shelia Harris, whose niece was the victim of a Christmas Eve tragedy in which an undocumented, unlicensed driver struck and killed the mother of three children and fled the scene of the crime. Within hours of his arrest, he was released from custody pending his criminal trial.

“This is just one of countless examples throughout the state where this law has endangered law-abiding New Yorkers,” Byrnes continued. “As I have stated before, my prior service as a prosecutor and judge has instilled in me the duty to fight for the rule of law and protect our communities. I will continue to urge my colleagues to repeal this law and put our safety ahead of Assembly Majority politics.”
