Byrnes Appointed to Ethics Committee

Announces 2021-22 Legislative Committee Assignments

Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia) has been appointed to serve on the Assembly Ethics and Guidance Committee, which reviews internal complaints and allegations of potential ethical violations, as well as sets standards for members of the state Assembly. In addition, Byrnes will be keeping her responsibilities as the Ranking Minority Member on the Assembly Children and Families Committee and as a member of the Assembly committees on Health, Housing, Judiciary, and Small Business.

“It is a privilege to have earned the respect of my colleagues and to be entrusted with the responsibility of serving on the Ethics Committee,” said Byrnes. “As a former judge, I know all too well the importance of a fair and impartial system, but I also believe we must hold our lawmakers to the highest standards. There is no room for corruption at our capitol, and I hold my colleagues to the same standard I hold myself. It is our duty to serve the people.”

As Ranking Member of the Assembly Committee on Children and Families, Byrnes is the highest-ranking Minority member to serve on the committee. Combined with her work on the Health, Housing, and Small Business committees, Byrnes said she anticipates these committees seeing a lot of COVID-related legislation this session. Her work in the Judiciary Committee is more limited to the needs of the judiciary system, but that too has been an important issue over the last year, said Byrnes.

The Assemblywoman said, “Our legislative work is significant, but the most pressing work will always be helping the constituents of the district. I would like to remind the public that my office can help if you’re having trouble with state issues like unemployment or small business red tape, especially as this may change during the pandemic. We are your advocates, and you are my priority always.”
