Cheers! Seaway Wine Trail Expansion Bill Becomes Law

Legislation Sponsored by Walczyk to Expand Trail Signed Into Law

Assemblyman Mark Walczyk (R,C,I-Watertown) announced Tuesday that legislation he sponsors (A.4753)to extend the ‘Thousand Islands – Seaway Wine Trail’ has been signed into law.

The measure will extend the existing Thousand Islands-Seaway Wine Trail, which was originally created in 2007.The new wineries that will now be included as part of this new law are The Cape Winery in Cape Vincent and White Caps Winery in Chaumont.

Not only will the extension showcase the area’s agribusinesses and help market them as tourist attractions in their own right, it helps give new lifeblood to the entire Thousand Island corridor, including the islands, state park, hospitality industry, historic sights, arts and other not-for-profits, small shops and businesses – all hit particularly hard by the pandemic.

The bill, which was also sponsored in the state Senate by Senator Patty Ritchie, was previously passed in both houses of the state Legislature during this past Legislative Session. The bill passed unanimously in the Assembly.
