Slater Celebrates Local Leaders at Women of Distinction Event

Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) honored Women of Distinction from each town within the 94th District who serve as an example of the values of their communities at Carmel Town Hall today. The women honored were Doris E. Crowder of Putnam Valley; Jennie Menton of Yorktown; Councilwoman Suzanne McDonough of Carmel; Rachel Roberts of Patterson; Yolanda “Lana” Cappelli of Kent; Kim Henry of Southeast; and Patricia Kalba of Somers. Slater was joined in celebrating these women by local elected officials.

“It’s truly an honor to stand alongside these remarkable women who represent the very best of our communities,” said Slater. “They go above and beyond, both personally and professionally, and remind us of the power of compassion and real leadership. In a time when selflessness is increasingly rare, these women set a shining example.”

Yorktown Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman said, “Jennie has been a beacon of community involvement for years in Yorktown. Her dedication to the town, our seniors and especially her work with Support Connection helping those fighting breast and ovarian cancers, makes her the perfect recipient to represent Yorktown as a Woman of Distinction.”

Carmel Town Supervisor Mike Cazzari said, “Councilwoman Suzi McDonough has spent years working hard for the people of Carmel. Her dedication, care, and love for this community have made a real difference, and we’re proud to honor her as a true woman of distinction.”

Southeast Town Supervisor Nick Durante said, “In the town of Southeast we are fortunate to have many distinguished women, making the selection process challenging each time. This year, our choice stands as a testament to the strength of women from Southeast.”

Patterson Town Supervisor Richard Williams said, “In the short time she has been here, Rachael Roberts has shown an amazing commitment to the people of the Town of Patterson. The Town Board was proud to nominate Rachael Roberts to Matt Slater’s 2025 Women of Distinction.”

Somers Town Supervisor Robert Scorrano said, “Robert Castelli was a dedicated public servant who consistently sought ways to contribute to the community. When he moved back to Somers, he came into my office to ask how he could help. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed to the Assessment Board of Review. It was an honor for me to be present at the naming ceremony of the Somers State Trooper barracks in his honor, recognizing his service to our town, state and country.”

Putnam Valley Town Supervisor Jaqueline Annabi said, “Thank you to Assemblyman Slater for holding such a meaningful and distinctive honor that allows our communities to celebrate individuals who make a real difference. The Town of Putnam Valley is proud to recognize Doris E. Crowder as this year’s Woman of Distinction. It is with great pride and heartfelt appreciation that we join in honoring her for her dedication, service, and impact. Congratulations, Doris!”

Kent Town Supervisor Jaime McGlasson said, “Lana Cappelli has been a cornerstone of the Town of Kent, serving with dedication, integrity, and heart as Town Clerk. Her commitment to our community makes her a truly deserving nominee for the Women of Distinction Award.”
