Assemblyman Durso, Local Leaders, and Community Unite for Highway Dedication Ceremony Honoring Charlie Bunger Sr.’s Legacy
New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso, (R-Massapequa Park), joined the Bunger Family, community members, local and state elected officials on Saturday, July 25th, to rename a stretch of Montauk Highway in Babylon Village, ‘Charlie Bunger Sr. Highway’.
Charlie Bunger Sr., a pioneer of East Coast surfing, wasn’t just a champion in the water; he was a friend, mentor, and a true local legend. From humble beginnings, Charlie began shaping surfboards in his basement for friends, which he turned into a successful family business and ultimately a well-known brand. Bunger Surf & Sports continues to be a destination for the local surfing community and a place where all are welcome.
“Congratulations to the Bunger Family on this well-deserved tribute and thank you for all you do for the community,” said Assemblyman Durso. “Charlie’s legacy will have a lasting impact on surfing and beyond.”
