Tax Grievance Day In Suffolk County

Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick (R,C,I-Smithtown) today announced an opportunity for residents of Suffolk County to file a tax grievance on their real property assessment. Suffolk County’s Tax Grievance Day is May 17, 2011. This is an opportunity for residents to file a formal review request on their taxes to see if the county is overcharging them.

“Homeowners on Long Island are feeling the very heavy burden of rising property taxes,” said Assemblyman Fitzpatrick. “Tax Grievance Day is an opportunity for people who feel they are overtaxed to go and have the county review their claim.”

The assemblyman noted that there are multiple ways to receive more information on filing a tax grievance. Residents of Suffolk County must reach out to their local town assessor’s office. In Smithtown, the assessor‘s office may be reached at 631-360-7560; in Brookhaven, at 631-451-6300; and in Islip, at 631-224-5585.
