Fitzpatrick: Property Tax Relief Should Be Top Focus

A Statement from Assemblyman Mike Fitzpatrick (R,C,I-Smithtown)

Today, during his State of the State Address, Gov. Cuomo brought forth his intention to once again increase the minimum wage in New York State. President Obama and Gov. Cuomo are doing too much to try and control the economy. Increasing the minimum wage only makes it more expensive for local business owners to hire workers instead of making it easier to create jobs. The best way to help New Yorkers without simultaneously crippling small-business owners is to reduce property taxes. The governor’s continued refusal to limit unfunded mandates only increases property taxes for the residents of Long Island. I will continue to fight for Long Islanders by supporting legislation that reduces tax burdens and the cost of living.
