Fitzpatrick: NYC Politicians Disregard Middle-Class Students By Passing Dream Act
Statement from Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick (R,C-Smithtown), member of the Assembly Committee on Higher Education
June 6, 2016
“Today the New York City-dominated Assembly Majority pushed for passage of the DREAM Act, a misaligned measure that would allow immigrants with no legal status to receive tuition assistance funded by taxpayers. Long Island’s middle-class families face hard economic realities when trying to pay for their children’s education – there is little assistance for them and their costs continue to rise. I encourage the Assembly Majority to; instead, focus on making college more affordable for all, especially those who bear the highest tax burden in our state. New York must prioritize its legal residents and their needs.”
