Fitzpatrick: Public Tax Dollars Must Go To Deserving College Students On Long Island

Statement from Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick (R ,C ,I ,Ref-Smithtown ) on the Dream Act

“While I am sympathetic to the cause of the “Dreamers” and do not believe that they can be deported, the problems related to their immigration status can only be solved by Congress in Washington. Until their status is resolved, I cannot support the expenditure of public funds on people without legal status. New York allows them in-state tuition rates which have not prevented them from pursuing a college education.

“I have many deserving constituents who need this aid and fall just short of qualifying for these funds. This aid for these students should be increased rather than what is proposed here.”
