Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run/Roll to be Held in Valley Stream

Valley Stream, NY – September 5 – In partnership with Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program, Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages will be hosting the annual Dr. Elsy Mecklembourg-Guibert Memorial Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run/Roll on October 5th at Hendrickson Park in Valley Stream. This annual event brings the community together to raise awareness for early detection and regular screenings for breast cancer while rallying to support those fighting breast cancer, and commemorating those we lost to the disease.

The event features a walk that invites community members of all fitness levels and abilities to join in and create a sea of pink to show solidarity with those fighting breast cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Lives can be saved with early detection and regular mammogram screenings for high-risk groups. A mammogram van from Nassau University Medical Center will be on-site providing screenings to attendees who make an appointment in advance. The Walk/Run/Roll is also supported by LIJ Valley Stream, the Gift of Giving Foundation, the Nassau Cancer Services Program, Harmony Healthcare Long Island, the Village of Valley Stream, and LiveOnNY.

Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages highlighted the importance of the annual event, stating "As we approach Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, it is important we continue to promote early detection for this disease and demonstrate as a community our support for those who are fighting breast cancer and those we lost. I encourage the community to come down and wear pink for this annual tradition. I thank all our partners as we bring the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run/Roll to Hendrickson Park this year.”
