Assemblywoman Solages Responds to Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Anesthesia Coverage Cap
Long Island, NY – In response to the decision from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to limit anesthesia coverage in New York State, Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages (D-Elmont) released the following statement:
“Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield’s recent decision to limit anesthesia coverage after a specified time frame raises serious concerns about patient safety and access to essential care. Anesthesia is not a luxury—it is a critical component of medical procedures that ensures patients receive the care they need safely and humanely.
Limiting coverage for anesthesia disregards the complexity of medical procedures and places undue stress on patients and providers alike. Such actions underscore the urgent need for stronger oversight and accountability measures for insurance companies.
We urge Anthem to reconsider this policy and work toward solutions that uphold patient-centered care. Access to comprehensive healthcare, including adequate anesthesia coverage, is a fundamental right that must be protected.”
