Assemblywoman Solages Hosts Earth Day Event Bringing Families Together Through Art, Sustainability

Franklin Square, NY On April 25, Assemblywoman Michalle Solages held an Earth Day event at the Franklin Square Public Library aimed at bringing residents together with their communities and parents, family members, and environmental groups, to participate in an “Eco-Friendly Art Workshop,” which including several different types of environmentally safe crafts, such as pot painting with low waste materials, as well as educating attendees about environmental sustainability and the use of native plants.

The Eco-Friendly Art Workshop was hosted in collaboration with Rewild Long Island, an organization dedicated to restoring and enhancing the ecology of Long Island by providing its partners and community-based organizations with opportunities and initiatives that are designed to promote planting native plants.

Rewild Long Island had volunteers present at the event providing to all participants native plants and sharing with them how to take care of those native plants in order for them to thrive.

“I came with my family and we had a wonderful time,” said Susan Sager, an attendee. “The kids are having so much fun, the parents are having so much fun, and we are learning how to protect our planet and clear air by planting.”

Others mentioned that events like this bring together community members while providing sustainability education.

“Caring for the planet is everyone’s job,” said another attendee. “It is extremely important now more than ever to tell our kids to be involved in making a clean and healthy environment.”

The event demonstrated the ongoing commitment of Assemblywoman Solages to environmental awareness, youth participation, and community-based initiatives.

Attendees were also informed about opportunities to volunteer for Rewild Long Island as well as how to incorporate native plants into their home gardens.
