Assembly members Nicole Malliotakis (R,C,I-Brooklyn/Staten Island) and Alec Brook-Krasny (D-Bay Ridge, Coney Island) recently took part in the 50th Anniversary Gala for Bay Ridge’s Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. The Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Bay Ridge originated in early 1956 when a group of seven men convened in the Little Fur Shop at 85th Street & 4th Avenue. In August 1964, the Archdiocese assigned the congregation its priest, Father Basil Gregory, who gave the first liturgy on Sunday, September 6, 1964. Today, the church is officiated by the Very Reverend Fr. Gerasimos Makris, and the contributions of the church's many parishioners continue to provide a tremendous positive impact upon the community.
