BAY RIDGE – Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R,C,I-East Shore) was joined today by Det. Scott Mateyaschuk, PO Neal Campbell, PO Sean Stone, K-9 Diesel, K-9 Murdock, and K-9 Tauriel of the NYPD K-9 Team at PS 102 in Bay Ridge. The school’s third-grade students were given a demonstration on how the K-9 Unit operates, and learned about the role the K-9 Unit plays in helping our police officers keep our city safe and how the dogs are trained. “The NYPD K-9 Unit is fascinating. The bond and level of trust between the officer and the dog is remarkable, and their value in investigations and crime prevention is undoubted. I hope this demonstration gave the children an understanding of and appreciation for our police officers and their working dogs,” said Malliotakis. “Thank you to Nicole Malliotakis for making this possible for us today. It’s very positive, not only that the students are learning about the care and help that the K-9 unit provides, but it also builds trust between the children and the New York City Police Department,” said Cornelia Sichenze, principal of PS 102.
