Assemblymember Hunter Response to Governor Hochul’s State of the State
“Having access to affordable housing is a fundamental human right. The NY Housing Compact announced by Governor Hochul has the potential to address New York’s affordable housing crisis. I look forward to working with the Governor to make more affordable housing available to families in the 128th district and across the state.
Throughout my district, I have heard from many constituents that public safety is a top concern. I have always believed that tackling the issue of crime does not have a one size fits all solution. One contributing factor to crime that is often overlooked is mental health. I am extremely happy to hear Governor Hochul’s plan to make a $1 billion investment in our mental health system. The plan she outlined would reopen 850 inpatient psychiatric beds that were closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her plan would also create 3,500 units of housing with supportive services and expand mental health services in our schools.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Assembly and with the Governor on these issues in this legislative session.
