Assemblyman Paul Bologna Response to State of the State

“After hearing the Governor’s State of the State, I am deeply disappointed and believe that there were major components missing from her plan.As a State we cannot spend our way to prosperity, throwing money at self-inflicted problems. She provided politically obligatory lip service to the affordability crisis but misses the mark on the policy.Proposals, such as a one-time $500 “inflation rebate” check, are nothing more than a gimmick. While they may feel nice, they do nothing to address the root cause of the affordability crisis. As a State, we should be investing any excess sales tax revenue in net positive initiatives, critical capital infrastructure investments, paying down debt and alleviating the tsunami of regulations that New York State businesses are forced to contend with.

“Instead of addressing issues head-on, the Governor’s solutions are more of the same — more regulations, billions in handouts and looking out for downstate interests. It's time for a change. We need leadership that prioritizes affordability for families, is less of a burden on hardworking taxpayers and promotes a better business climate. Until then, residents and businesses will continue to seek better opportunities in other states.”
