Assemblymember Phil Steck Announces Gade Farm’s Official Recognition on the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry

Guilderland, NY – Assemblymember Phil Steck is proud to announce that Gade Farm, a cornerstone of the Guilderland community, has been officially added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. This prestigious recognition honors businesses that have been a vital part of New York’s economic and cultural heritage for over fifty years.

Founded in 1878, Gade Farm has grown from a small roadside vegetable stand into one of the Capital Region’s most beloved family-owned farms and garden centers. For more than a century, the Gade family has provided the community with fresh produce, locally sourced goods, and expert gardening advice. What began as a modest farming operation has flourished into a multi-generational business that continues to serve the local area with the same commitment to quality and community values.

Assemblymember Steck, along with Guilderland Town Supervisor Peter Barber, were both on hand to congratulate Jim and John Gade on this well-deserved recognition. Assemblymember Steck commented, "Gade Farm is not just a business; it is a treasured institution in Guilderland. For nearly 150 years, the Gade family has been deeply woven into the fabric of our community, providing fresh, local food and a place for families to gather. Their hard work and dedication to sustainable farming practices have left a lasting impact, and their continued presence ensures that future generations will have access to locally grown produce and a sense of connection to the land. I am thrilled to see Gade Farm recognized as part of the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry following my nomination, as it is a testament to its enduring importance to the town."

Supervisor Peter Barber added, "Gade Farm has been a pillar of Guilderland for well over a century. It’s rare to find a business that has maintained such a strong commitment to the local community while growing and adapting to meet the needs of modern consumers. The Gade family’s dedication to preserving the heritage of our town while continuing to innovate is truly inspiring. We are fortunate to have such a longstanding business that represents the very best of what Guilderland has to offer."

Jim Gade, representing the family, expressed his gratitude, stating, "We are deeply honored to receive this recognition. Gade Farm has always been about community and family. We wouldn’t be here without the support of our customers and the Guilderland community. We look forward to continuing our legacy of providing quality products and contributing to the community that has supported us for so long."

Today, Gade Farm continues to offer a wide range of products and services that reflect their deep roots in agriculture. In addition to seasonal fruits and vegetables, customers can shop from a diverse selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees for their home gardens. Gade Farm is also a destination for high-quality locally sourced meats, cheeses, honey, and other specialty items. Their farm store, brimming with fresh baked goods and unique gifts, attracts patrons year-round.
