Businesses like Lyft and Uber have created new opportunities for transportation in cities all across the country, particularly where the old model of taxi service was not adequately serving the community. The people of the Capital Region have made it clear that they want the same access.
Many of my constituents have reached out to express their support for ride-hailing because they recognize the benefits that this service coupled with cell phone technology can bring to our community. I am pleased that I was able to have an impact on the legislation that facilitated the operation of these services in New York. For example, I have previously expressed my support for adopting state-wide, rather than local, standards, requiring non-burdensome background checks for drivers, and providing that these services are subject to the New York Human Rights law in their treatment of passengers.
