Dear Friends and Neighbors,
While reopening continues, members of our community still need assistance with food distribution, unemployment benefits, housing and government assistance, and we're here to help. Of special note is the new COVID Rent Relief Program, now live until July 30th, that will provide a rental subsidy for tenants who lost income as a consequence of the pandemic. The time window is short - so check your eligibility and apply today.
Should you or anyone that you know who needs assistance with any additional resources that are available for aid, please call our office at 212-828-3953 on Mondays-Fridays from 9am-5pm in order to place an appointment for an in-person or virtual meeting.
Last Month, I voted to pass the Emergency Rent Relief Act of 2020. This law created a COVID Rent Relief Program to provide a subsidy for up to 4 months of missed rent for renters who lost their income as a result of the pandemic.
The program is now live, but applications are only open until Thursday, July 30th.
To be eligible, tenant households must:
- Have a household income below 80% of the area median income (AMI) which is ~$60K/yr for a 1-person sized household and adjusted based on household size. You can find your area and household size's AMI here.
- Have paid more than 30% of your household income for rent prior to March 1, 2020
- Have at least one household member who is a U.S. citizen or have otherwise eligible immigration status
My office can assist you with paper applications that are also available in Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Haitian Creole, Korean, and Bengali. To make an appointment, please call 212-828-3953.
