Smullen: Despite State Budget Deficit, Funding to Aid Undocumented Migrants Has Doubled
A Statement from Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) in response to Governor Hochul’s State Budget presentation on Jan. 16, 2024.
“During Gov. Hochul’s budget presentation today, we saw yet another example of one-party rule seizing control of a budget aimed at helping New York families and businesses and using it instead to help dig New York City Majority is out of the monumental hole they dug for themselves in the wake of the growing migrant crisis. Our state’s financial outlook has been troubling for some time as we spend money we don’t have on things we don’t need, and we are steadily approaching a fiscal cliff from which there is no return. With another colossal state budget weighing heavily on us, New Yorkers want funding to be directed at revitalizing their communities, fixing the criminal justice system and making our state more affordable overall. Instead funding is being spent on undocumented migrants—it is no wonder New York state leads the nation in domestic out-migration to other states.”
