Smullen Congratulates Assembly District 118 Student Recipient of The Sixth Annual Norman R. Mcconney, Jr. Award for EOP Student Excellence

Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) is proud to congratulate SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College student Carlos Gorman on being a 2025 recipient of the 6th Annual Norman R. McConney, Jr. Award for Educational Opportunity Program Student Excellence. This award honors the legacy of Norman R. McConney, Jr., who alongside former Assembly Deputy Speaker Arthur Eve, created the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), which has changed the lives of tens of thousands of students over its more than 50 years. This special honor recognizes EOP students who have shown tremendous leadership academically and socially on their campus and who have overcome unique challenges on their path to success.

“Congratulations to Carlos on this incredible achievement,” said Smullen. “It is my honor to help congratulate Carlos and other students like him throughout our 118th Assembly District who have demonstrated they are hardworking, dedicated leaders among their peers. Carlos has exceeded expectations in his studies and extracurriculars at FMCC—he should be very proud and is very deserving of this prestigious award.”
